    I like this!

    We watched Mel Gibson's 'Passion of Christ' with the youth group last night, and it's struck me in ways it didn't the first time I saw it (in the theater back when it was released). If someone described Christianity based entirely on what they could learn about it from the media, I don't think it would resemble the teachings of Jesus in any way...and that's a scary thought.

    You know, Maggie, I don't think the fundamentalists are at all interested in the teachings of Jesus. What they're interested in is their theory of substitutionary atonement.

    I agree. The picture we get of Christianity from the mainstream media is, shall we say, not at all comprehensive. And, yes, that's scary.
